Look around you right now and you’ll see that the majority of people you see are clutching onto their cell phones. We have become so reliant on these mobile devices that life without them quite literally sounds like a foreign concept. So why not use your cell phone to enhance your lifestyle, and include some fitness apps that will keep you looking summer ready all year long. We round up five of our favourites, and the best part? They’re all free!

Nike+ Training Club This app is something really special. Nike rounded up some of the best trainers, athletes and fitness enthusiasts from all corners of the globe to bring an offering that is entirely versatile. You can either get lean, get toned, get strong or just get focused. Once you’ve made that first step you can then decide what area of your body you want to zoom in on and with which trainer. You will never get bored with this app, because you can choose a different exercise every day of the week for months on end.

Couch to 5k/ C25k Have you always pictured yourself running a full marathon, and then snapped back to reality after convincing yourself that it’s absolutely impossible? Well Couch to 5k is an app designed to change that. The mistake that most people make when they start running as a form of exercise, is push themselves too hard on their very first run. The experience is then not an enjoyable one, so they don’t go back. Running doesn’t have to be as daunting as you think, with a fully-fledged step by step plan to conquer your goals. Couch to 5k, will guide you towards running 5km’s in just 9 weeks. From starting off with just a brisk 5minute warm-up walk and then alternating between 60seconds and 90 seconds of jogging for 20minutes in week 1, to running a full 5km’s in week 9. You can also choose which way you measure your training on this app, whether it be distance or time and you get three workouts a week.
