This pay-out can be used to replace your income while you are ill and unable to work or to pay any medical bills not covered by your medical aid. Find out how Dread Disease Cover helped Mr J Nkosi*.

Case Study: Brain Tumour
Client: Mr J Nkosi*
Policy Inception: 01 March 2010

  • Pure Life Cover: R500 000
  • Occupation Based Disablement Cover R200 000
  • Dread Disease Cover R200 000

Condition: Brain Tumour
Benefit Paid: 25% of Dread Disease Cover benefit
Mr Nkosi’s policy was in force for 4 months when he was diagnosed with a brain tumour. Because the diagnosis was made so shortly after policy inception, a full medical history was requested to ensure that all medical conditions were declared at policy inception. Investigations revealed that Mr Nkosi’s medical history was clear and the tumour was indeed diagnosed after policy inception.

Mr Nkosi was a foreman and diagnosed with a Prolactin Secretory Pituitary Adenoma (tumour). The tumour was a benign (non-cancerous) tumour, and Mr Nkosi was expected to respond well to treatment and make a full recovery. This resulted in a 25% payout on the claim, i.e. 25% of his Dread Disease Cover benefit amount, and R50 000 was paid to Mr Nkosi.

As Mr Nkosi made a full recovery, this did not impact on his ability to work and therefore no Disablement Cover claim was considered. Find out more about Dread Disease Cover from 1Life or contact us now for a quote on 0860 10 53 40.
