The start of something new: From the December 2012 1Lifedirect will be known as 1Life. This is an exciting change for us and one we feel reflects our commitment to providing uniquely tailored Life solutions to all people anywhere in South Africa. Today we are proud to offer solutions that have simplified the way people look at life insurance while still ensuring the processes are easily understandable and accessible. We invite you to walk with us through this journey as we divulge into the story of the 1Life brand - as it transitions to a more streamlined structure.

The early beginnings: On the 14th of March 2006, a company committed to becoming South Africa's first fully direct life insurance provider launched as “1Lifedirect”. For us that commitment meant moving with the times by making life insurance accessible online while removing the traditional ‘broker’ from the equation. Our products stood by the claim to be simple, convenient and affordable while offering value for money.

Following this, we then became the first Life insurance provider to introduce saliva testing as part of our medical underwriting process, to remove any fear that people may have with needles. Added to this, we were the first life insurer in South Africa to offer you life insurance online, we also provided a world first, we made life insurance sales accessible by cell phone, and a Life insurance self-service portal that uses WAP-enabled technology, to give access via a mobile phone, where clients were able to view and make changes to their policies.

From our inception our vision has been was to ‘shake-up’ the industry by offering South African’s competitive premiums, coupled with a ‘head-ache ’ free service as well as the freedom to choose an option that suite’s their specific needs. By focusing on this – we have been able to establish a connection with our clients because we understand the need to be seen as a hassle free life insurance company that actually understands our customers specific and distinctive life stage needs.

The next chapter: As the 1Life brand has progressed and matured in the market, the product offering has expanded to include not only Pure Life cover but other products that aim to provide our customers with an option to grow his/her portfolio with access to simple financial solutions.

In 2011 we launched 1Life Invest, an affordable unit trust investment portfolio which offers customers a flexible investment goal. To this end, our consultants are focused on helping you select the best unit trust portfolio for your individual needs... Soon after, we introduced a unique funeral insurance option – 1Life funeral. The policy we provide our clients includes strong memorial and repatriation benefits – all based on our customer requirements. Now we offer free standing disability and dread disease products so that customers can tailor their product needs to their life stage and circumstances. These solutions have helped to change many people’s lives for the better, as when your financial future is secure, all worries are dispelled and you begin to enjoy the life your living.

The epilogue: As we move forward, 1Life, as a brand and a company, will always remain focused on the design and conservation of simple, easy to understand solutions that are tailored to meet your unique life stages.
