What are the waiting periods on the funeral policy?

The waiting period for natural death on the funeral plan is 12 months and 12 paid premiums. Death from accidental causes is covered from the time that we receive your first premium.

What is not covered on the funeral policy?

Suicide will not be covered for the first 2 years on the policy.
Intentionally breaking the law (including fraud) will not be covered.
Fraudulent or deliberate acts in respect of a claim will not be covered.

Are medical examinations required?

No medical examinations are needed to be covered.

How much cover can I buy?

The maximum amount of life cover that a main member, spouse, child over the age of 13 years, parent or extended family member can have is R45 000 per member. Children under the age of 5 years can be insured for a maximum of R10 000 per child. Children between 6 and 13 years can be insured for a maximum R15 000 per child.

What happens if the main insured member dies?

If the main insured member dies, the existing members on the policy will still have cover for a period of 2 years. No additional premiums will need to be paid during this time. When the 2 year period is over, the spouse can continue with 1Lifefuneral after being quoted on a new policy in which they become the main member.

How many extended family members can I have on the policy?

You can add a maximum of 10 extended family members onto the policy.

How long does it take to pay a claim?

Provided that all if the necessary documentation has been received in relation to the claim, a successful claim will be paid out within 48 hours.

How do you claim on a funeral policy?

Claiming on your policy is easy.

  • Simply complete the claim form you received in your policy pack when you took out cover. If you need a copy of the claim form, there are various ways to get it:
    • Contact us on 0860 10 59 79 to get the claim forms e-mailed or faxed to you.
    • Submit the claim form with a copy of the deceased’s and beneficiary’s ID as well as the death certificate of the deceased.
    • Submit a BI1663 - notification of death report, which can be obtained from a doctor or funeral parlor.
    • Fax all the documents through to 0860 10 57 67.
